These photographs of old master drawings in the collection of the Dukes of Devonshire at Chatsworth were prepared for the catalog of drawings in the Devonshire collection compiled by Michael Jaffé (in progress; the Italian drawings, 4 v., were published in 1994). Some two-thirds of the collection represents Italian drawings; the remainder includes French, German, Swiss, Dutch, Flemish, English and Spanish drawings. Also included are photographs of an album originally belonging to Lord James Cavendish, now in the British Museum.
